​This action group highlights the impacts of the climate crisis on food security in the Caribbean. It tells the stories of the farmers, fishers and other people who have seen their livelihoods affected by hotter temperatures, droughts, saltwater intrusion, ocean warming, ocean acidification and the other ways in which climate change affects food security, and it advocates for justice on their behalf.

The health sector is seriously impacted by the climate crisis. This action group draws attention to these impacts, and through strategic partnerships with existing organizations it seeks to influence policy changes to ensure that the health profiles of Caribbean citizens are not further imperiled by the rapidly changing climate.

Climate Justice is primarily concerned with responding to the myriad ways in which the climate crisis affects the basic human rights of people, and nowhere is this more visible than among populations that are already at-risk. This action group identifies these groups, advocates on their behalf and seeks to recommend changes that will address the deficiencies in the policy space.

The formal education system is a powerful and important tool to increase knowledge and understanding of the impacts of the climate crisis. This Action Group uses the formal and informal education system to influence changes in knowledge, attitudes and practices related to climate change and the broader natural environment.

The Caribbean tourism sector depends on a healthy and pristine natural environment to keep its competitive edge. However, the climate crisis is threatening many of the natural assets that make the sector attractive, as well as the coastal areas and beaches on or near which a significant amount of tourism infrastructure is located. This action groups draws attention to this issue and seeks to engage the tourism sector in fashioning solutions.

The media, both traditional and new media, is very important in shaping public perception on the climate crisis and in causing a change in behavior. Unfortunately, however, climate change and climate justice are not issues that occupy the attention of most of the established Caribbean media personnel. This action group seeks to support and work with a cadre of Caribbean journalists, who use a variety of media platforms, to get the messages on climate justice out to the public. It also serves as a repository of reliable, accurate information on the climate crisis and climate justice, which media personnel can use to develop their stories.

Women and girls are particularly vulnerable to natural disasters and the impacts of the climate crisis. This action group draws attention to the issues confronting women and girls as a result of their unique vulnerabilities to extreme weather events.

According to UNEP, the Caribbean has over 11,000 plant species, with 72 of these found only in our region. It also contains a wide range of animal species that includes several exotic fishes and birds. This rich biodiversity is under threat from the climate crisis. This action group is dedicated to advocating for action to preserve our biodiversity.
